Message from the Principal

Hi, parents and friends.

We have made it to the halfway point of the school year!  With students busy in classrooms and engaged in learning, we are taking a moment to focus our attention on making the second half of the year even more successful!  The LPOHS staff, full of energy and great ideas, has created an exciting second semester of learning and fun!

As we dig through data, there are many reasons to celebrate this last quarter.  At the end of the quarter, we give students a chance to give feedback to teachers through a brief questionnaire. This process helps us to know areas of strength and areas where we need to improve.  We have been working on the idea of “one trusted adult” within LPO this semester, and the results of the feedback help to reinforce all of our work. Here are a couple of the questions and the student's responses

I feel the teacher in this class truly cares about me. - 95% Agree/Strongly Agree!

I feel I can talk to my teacher. - 91% Agree/Strongly Agree!

Students in this class treat each other with respect. - 91% Agree/Strongly Agree!

This feedback is a reflection on our school and how hard our staff works to create a place that is academically, physically, and emotionally safe for all students at LPOHS.

I need your help! As awesome as this information is, it only works when students are coming to school every day!  There is a direct correlation between the climate and culture we can build and student attendance.  We work hard to create an academically strong, engaging, and fun learning environment.  Without the commitment of parents to get students there and for students to show up, the whole school is weakened.

Please take a moment to revisit the commitment that was made as you entered our school.  Where we agreed to create a safe environment and you committed to being there.  This commitment is a critical part of our school and can not be taken lightly.

I am excited about the new programs and activities we have planned for this next semester and even more excited to see students who have historically struggled with education find success at LPOHS.  This success is contagious and will help to create even more opportunities for our students to unlock their strengths to become the amazing adults we all see in them.

Sincerely,

Luke Childers
